Scope of a student retention initiative

A comprehensive student retention initiative will include many of the following components:

	Freshman Seminar Course
	Writing and Math Centers
	Tutoring Program
	Academic Advising
	Career Counseling
	Student Services
	Library Facilities
	Misc: on-campus housing, email, etc.

As a result, a student retention initiative will often include many of the following campus communities:

	Advising
	Instruction
	Registration
	Orientation
	Special Support Programs
	New Student Transition Programs
	Advisement and Recruitment
	Counseling
	Assessment

Enrollment management

Enrollment management is an even broader and more encompassing topic than student retention. All though many definitions of enrollment management include student retention, in practice, many schools have completely separate departments for student recruitment and student retention.
